Away: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Home: Minnesota Vikings
When: Week 2. September 18, 2011. 1:00 pm ET. Televised on FOX.

In this week 2 game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1) are on the road to play the Minnesota Vikings (0-1). Both teams lost their week 1 games, but both were up against tough competition. The Buccaneers lost a 27-20 battle against a greatly improved Detroit Lions team. For the Vikings, their passing game was so late to the stadium that the Chargers told them to take the day off – so they did. The Vikings recorded 258, 197, 113, 79, 56, 39 total passing yards. Yep, that’s THIRTY-NINE total yards. We hope for more out of them in this week 2 matchup against the Buccaneers.

Below are the latest Buccaneers vs. Vikings betting lines for the point spread, money line and total.

Vikings vs. Buccaneers Analysis & Prediction

Last season these two teams went in opposite directions, as the Buccaneers went 10-6 while the Vikings went 6-10. While both of these teams lost their week 1 games, they were completely different stories.

As mentioned above, the Vikings had an awful game against the Chargers, much worse than the you’d expect out of a 24-17 final score. While Minnesota had a good day rushing (159 yards), Donovan McNabb went 7/15 for 39 total yards. He threw one touchdown – a deep, Hail Mary bomb for THREE yards to Michael Jenkins. The highlight for the Vikings was an 103 yard kickoff return by Percy Harvin. The Chargers dominated time of possession at 37:17 versus 22:43 for the Vikings.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost at home to the Lions in a competitive 27-20 game. The Lions defense dominated the Buccaneers rushing offense, allowing just 56 total rushing yards. Had the Buc’s been able to rush the ball more effectively, this game would’ve had a different final result.

Minnesota won’t gain many yards through the air against the tough Buccaneers secondary, but Peterson should be effective against a weak Buccaneers rushing defense. Tampa Bay had a balanced offense last season, led by several young stars that I expect more from this season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Minnesota Vikings Point Spread

At the time of this writing, the home team Minnesota Vikings are favored by -3 (Even) at the BetOnline Sportsbook. Bettors can get the Buccaneers at +3 (-120).

The Buccaneers went 6-2 on the road last year, and the Vikings were 4-4 at home. Tampa Bay is an up and coming team, but the Vikings should be a tough game for the Bucs on the road. Tampa Bay has a balanced offense and if they can get their running game going against the Vikings, they should break for some big gains. Minnesota still has a strong defense, but Josh Freeman is improving fast.

Blount should be able to find some running room against the Vikings. Big backs tend to find yardage against the tough Vikings run defense and I expect Blount to have a big game. If Freeman can play conservatively and stay away from costly mistakes, the Bucs should be able to win this game outright.

Since I’m picking the Buccaneers to win outright, I love getting 3 points on the spread. However, instead of taking -120 on the point spread, I’ll take the money line and +130. I don’t expect everyone to agree with this or follow me on this bet, but this is my favorite bet for week 2.

Vikings vs. Buccaneers Money Line

As I mentioned above, the Buccaneers money line is my favorite bet of week 2. I feel strongly that they’re going to win this game outright, so I prefer getting +130 on the money line than -110 and getting 3 points. This money line is available right now at BetOnline.com.

If you prefer the Vikings straight-up, you can get them at -150 at BetOnline. However, if you take this bet, you better have a good reason for believing the Vikings will make a complete change from last week.

At the time of this writing, the Bodog Sportsbook hasn’t posted their money lines yet. When they do, we’ll update the chart at the top of this page.

Buccaneers vs. Vikings Total (Over/Under) Betting Odds

The Vikings still have a top 10 defense in my opinion, and their offense is going to struggle to put up points. At 41.5 (-110), the Vikings should help keep the score low. I’m expecting a score in the range of 20-10 to 27-17, putting most of those totals in the under category. So, I’m taking the under at 41.5 (-110) at BetOnline.

Bet on Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Minnesota Vikings

For this week 2 game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings, I’m going to bet on the Buccaneers money line at +130. On the total, I’ll bet on the under at 41.5 (-110). Both of these bets will be made at BetOnline unless Bodog gets their money lines up quick and is offering a better price.
