Memphis vs. St. Louis Betting Lines

One of the most exciting games of the 2nd round should be this West Region game between the #8 Memphis Tigers and #9 Saint Louis Billikens. These are very good teams, and I expect the winner of this game to make a deep run in the tournament. I’m sure neither of these teams are happy with the matchup, but for fans this should be one of the best 2nd round games in the 2012 March Madness tournament.

Saint Louis vs. Memphis Prediction

The Memphis Tigers (26-8) destroyed the competition this past week in the C-USA Conference Tournament. Memphis easily won the title this week and should be ready to take a jump up in competition against the Billikens on Friday.

The St. Louis Billikens (25-7) have had a season to remember, as everything has seemed to click at the right time. It’ll be interesting to see if SLU can make something of their #9 seed in the big dance. Memphis is one of the best shooting teams in the nation, capable of hanging with anyone. The Tigers averaged 75.3 PPG (33rd overall), 14.8 APG (44th overall) and shoot .494 from the field (5th overall).

Saint Louis isn’t going to kill you on the scoreboards, as the team only scores an average of 69.2 PPG (142nd overall). However, the Billikens have turned into one of the best defensive teams in the league. Pitting the high flying Tigers offense against the stingy Billikens defense is going to be a great matchup for fans.

When it comes to March Madness I get a bit leery of teams that rely heavily on defense like the Billikens do. Memphis has a lot of expectations this year and I think they’ll get by SLU – although it should be a close game. I’ll bet on the Memphis Tigers -3 (-110) before the odds move up, as I see public money coming in on SLU on Friday.

The best Memphis money line is -160 at TopBet.com. The best SLU money line is currently +140 at BetOnline.com.

The over/under looks sharp and I’ll be staying away from this bet. Currently, the Memphis vs. St. Louis over/under is 129 (-110) on either side at BetOnline, and 128.5 (-110) at TopBet.
