The New England Patriots will be visiting the Miami Dolphins in the 1st Monday Night Football game of the 2011-12 NFL regular season. The Patriots finished with a 14-2 record last season and they’ve added more talent to the team this year. The team brought in Chad Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth this off-season, which should help them out tremendously.
Miami on the other hand decided to dump their RB combo of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams during the off-season. Miami picked up Reggie Bush and drafted rookie Daniel Thomas in the 2nd round to take over the RB duties. I think Bush will excel with the Dolphins, but I think it’ll take a few weeks for the offense to gel.
Last year the Dolphins and Patriots met twice and the Patriots won both games by the score of 38-7 and 41-14. These division foes are heading in opposite directions this season and I think we’ll see another blow-out. New England’s offense is amongst the best in the league with Tom Brady and his extremely deep receiving core that includes two powerful TE’s.
Belicheck is going to have his team ready to come out and destroy the Dolphins in Miami on MNF in week 1. One thing I like about Bill is that he doesn’t mind blowing out his opponents and the point spread shouldn’t be any concern. Miami did have one of the top defenses in the league last year, but they were unable to stop the high-flying attack of Brady and company.
New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins Point Spread
At Sports Interaction, the Patriots are favored by -7 (-110) right now.
Looking at the two games between these teams last season, it isn’t difficult to see that the Dolphins struggled a lot against the Patriots. New England improved their team by adding two superstar veterans to their roster, while the Dolphins still have a lot of question marks to answer, including Chad Henne at QB.
Chad Henne hasn’t looked great in the preseason thus far, and I don’t think he’s going to have a great game against the Patriots in week 1 on MNF. Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas might put up decent numbers this season, but I don’t see them being able to execute against the Patriots defense in week 1. New England opened as -3.5 point favourites and they’re already up to -7 now. We could see another point or two added to it, so you’ll want to jump on the Patriots as soon as possible if you don’t want to lay more than a TD.

Dolphins vs. Patriots Money Line
Right now we can bet on the Patriots at -300 or the Dolphins at +250 on the money line at Sports Interaction. Although the game is in Miami, I don’t think the Dolphins have much of a chance to win this game. If you don’t like the 7-point spread, you might want to consider the Patriots money line at -300 instead.
If you like the Dolphins to win outright, +250 on the money line might look good to you. Personally, I would wait and see if the money line gets closer to +280 as we get closer to game-time.
Patriots vs. Dolphins Total (Over/Under) Betting Odds
The Patriots vs. Dolphins over/under is 45.5 points right now, and -110 on either side. This game has the potential to go well over the posted total, but it’s not one of my favorite bets. Miami is going to struggle to put up points in this game and I actually think the game is going to finish just under the 45.5 point total.
Bet on the New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins Game
My favorite bet for the Patriots vs. Dolphins in week 1 on Monday Night Football is the Patriots by -7. I think they easily cover this spread and show why they’re a Super Bowl favorite in the 2011-2012 season. Although I’m not crazy about -300 on the money line, I don’t see any way the Dolphins win this game outright. If there is a week 1 lock, this could be it.
