Chicago Bulls at Utah Jazz NBA Preview

2011 Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls are led by potential MVP Derrick Rose. Rose is averaging 24.6 points and 8.2 assists per game, and is the consummate team player and general on the floor. His growth and maturity this season means Da Bulls are Back!! Chicago miss big man Joakim Noah who hurt his hand back in November, evident on Monday when the Portland Trailblazer’s Lionel Aldridge schooled Carlos Boozer for 42 points on their way to a 109-103 win. Boozer got no defensive help inside and Luol Deng was not a factor in the post. Boozer is the teams’ second leading scorer with a 19.9 average plus 10 boards, while Deng is the Bulls other scoring threat with 17.4 PPG. Head coach Tom Thibodeau also calls on Omar Asik and Kyle Korver for contributions off the bench.

2011 Utah Jazz

Utah is one of the best passing teams in the league, ranking second in assists per game. The Jazz are led by Deron Williams (22.1 points per game), Paul Milsap (17.5) and Al Jefferson (16.8). Small forwards CJ Miles and Andrei Kirilenko combine for 23.3 points a game with Kirilenko starting and Miles playing the sixth man role. Kirilenko is better on the glass but Miles scores a dozen a game in only 23 minutes. Point guard Williams averages nearly 10 assists and four rebounds per game and is a handful on the court because of his size and strength.

Chicago Bulls at Utah Jazz Prediction

Utah is 4-6 in their last ten games and this up and down trend has been a problem all year. They will play well one night (a seven point win at Denver) and then poorly the next (a 16 point blowout loss at home to Oklahoma City). The Jazz are only 17-10 at home this year. The game also marks the return of Carlos Boozer to Utah where he will likely hear boos from the crowd but not in a fun way related to his name. The Bulls are only 11-12 on the road this year, but we expect that number to improve as the team matures.

Chicago is the better team right now, but Utah seems to rise to the occasion. Look for the Jazz to come from behind and grind out a close game. We’re going with the Jazz (pick -110) at Sportsbook.com.
