Georgetown Hoyas vs. Belmont Bruins Prediction
The Georgetown Hoyas (23-8) were upset in the quarterfinals of the Big East conference tournament last week by Cincinnati in 2OT and I’m sure they’ve been itching to get back on the court. The Hoyas will be focused coming into the tourney after the upset, which should mean we’re in for a great game.
The Hoyas usually have a stingy defense that keeps them in the game and they’ll need it Friday. Georgetown scores an average of 69.1 PPG (145th overall), but they have a solid defense that only allows 59.2 PPG. The Belmont Bruins (27-7) had the 4th highest scoring team in the nation, as they averaged 81.5 PPG. The team also dishes the ball out well (17.4 APG).
Belmont wanted to open the season with some tough games to test the team early. The Bruins started the season 0-2 as they lost to the Blue Devils by 1-point and got blown out by Memphis in their next game. Belmont has been on a roll lately and is coming into the tourney riding a 14-game win streak. This team knows how to win and will push the Hoyas to the end.
I’m betting on the Bruins at +4 (-110) at BetOnline and I’m also grabbing a bit of action on the Bruins money line. At +160 I think that’s decent value on the Bruins, as they should be able to hang with Georgetown. I’m not convinced on the Hoyas, as the team lost to an average Cincinnati team early in the Big East conference tournament.
The game pits Georgetown’s defense against Belmont’s high flying offense. Like I’ve said in previous picks, I like offense in the big dance over defense and I’ll take the underdog that can put up quick points. If Belmont can score near 70 points on this Hoyas defense it may be enough to squeak out of the 2nd round with a big upset.
