Miami Heat vs Boston Celtics Betting Line

The lines below are for a previous Heat vs Celtics game. We’ll update this post when these teams matchup again.

The opening night of the 2010-2011 NBA basketball season is October 26th and will feature the Miami Heat playing against the Boston Celtics in the first game of the night. This is going to be the most anticipated opening night game in years due to the massive free agent signings made by the Miami Heat organization during the off-season. A few online sports betting sites have already released odds for the game and the sportbooks expect the game to be closer then I anticipate.

Heat vs. Celtics Opening Night Predictions

The Boston Celtics have a lot to prove this season after losing to the Lakers in 7 games this past season in the NBA Finals, but there is even more pressure on the Miami Heat. After signing an entire new team except for a few players, the Miami Heat need to prove that the off-season spending spree was worth it. If the Heat lose their first game of the season, I can only imagine what stories the media will come up with.

There is no doubt that the Heat offense is going to revolve around LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. All three of these players have played together and it’s going to be important that they gel quickly. Due to the fact that it’s nearly impossible to stop Wade or James on their own, I expect them to do even better together since teams won’t be able to double-team everyone. If Wade or James draws double coverage from the Celtics, they can move the ball down low to Bosh for the easy deuce.

What I feel is going to be the most important factor in the Heats ability to win the game is how the rest of the team does. Miami signed several players during the off-season to fill up their roster including Ilgauskas, Haslem, Miller and Howard. These big men will need to help Bosh down low and on the defensive side of the ball. All of these guys are capable of putting up solid minutes in a game and they’re going to be important to the Heat’s success all season.

Boston will bring back the same starting line-up for the most part although it’ll be slightly different then last year. Celtics will most likely start Garnett, Allen, Rondo, Pierce and Jermaine O’Neal against the Heat due to an injury to Perkins. Boston also has a deep bench that they’ll utilize throughout the game including Shaquille O’Neal, West, Robinson and Davis. There is no doubt that the Celtics are going to be a competitive team again this season, but I don’t think they’ll beat the Heat in the season opener.

Miami has too much to prove in the first game of the season and I can see James, Wade and Bosh lighting up the field and taking an early lead. The bench is going to give up plenty of points, but I don’t think it’ll be enough for the Heat to lose. Miami will have a few shaky games in the early part of the season, but it won’t come against the Celtics in game 1. I expect the Heat will have trouble covering monster spreads throughout the season, but with a –2 point spread I need to take the Heat.

You can bet on the Miami Heat to win the game by –2 point at Bodog currently, but the line will definitely move before tip-off so make sure you jump on the spread as soon as possible.
