* The 2011 NASCAR season is just about to start. When we get closer to the 2011 race at Watkins Glen, we’ll update this post with the latest betting lines at the top online sportsbooks.

Below is our post from the 2010 Watkins Glen event.

The NASCAR Watkins Glen International takes place today at 1:00PM EST just outside of Watkins Glen, New York. This is going to be the final road race of the Sprint Cup Series this year and it should be interesting too watch. The track has a total of 11 corners and isn’t your average oval racetrack. Normally I’d expect to see a lot of the favorites being known as road track racers, but that isn’t the case for today’s race. The sportbooks definitely got the favorite right in this race though. The easy favorite for today’s race is Tony Stewart, as he’s been able to absolutely dominate this racetrack in recent years.

* Our favorite online sportsbook for betting on NASCAR is the Bodog Sportsbook – check ’em out.

· Although I don’t like betting on the favorite in NASCAR that much, I definitely need to consider splashing a bit of my bankroll on Tony Stewart today. Stewart has won 5 of the past 8 races on the Watkins Glen International racetrack and he also has a few 2nd place finishes recently as well. Tony has proven that he’s consistent on this racetrack and at +250 there is still some value in this pick. I’d definitely consider betting on Stewart in as many match-up bets as you can because even if he doesn’t finish first, I’d expect him to have a top 5 finish at least.

· Jeff Gordon is currently sitting at +1200 odds for today’s race and if you love the underdog then you’re going to love grabbing a piece of Gordon at 12:1 on your money. The reason why some people like Gordon today is because he has won at Watkins Glen in the past. The problem is that Gordon hasn’t done well at Watkins Glen in almost a decade and many people are wondering why you’d waste any of your bankroll backing him.

· Marcos Ambrose is sitting at +400 right now with the sportsbook I bet with. There isn’t a lot of value in Ambrose since he’s never won a Sprint Cup Race since joining the circuit, but he does have 2 wins on the Nationwide Series and both of those victories came on the Watkins Glen racetrack. Although Ambrose hasn’t proven himself yet on the Sprint Cup circuit, this may be his time to finally get his first victory under his belt on the racetrack that has treated him well in the past.

· Another road warrior is Juan Pablo Montoya and he’s sitting at +450 odds right now. Montoya has plenty of experience racing on the roads since he has raced in Formula 1, Formula 3000 and CART in his career. Montoya hasn’t seen much success in NASCAR yet, but he’s also going to be a contender on a road course. Montoya has finished in the top 6 in the last two races at Watkins Glen and should be in contention again today.

I’m going to lay my money on Stewart and Boris Said (+2000) as my underdog pick for today. Boris has plenty of experience on road courses and I think he may surprise some people today. I’m also going to take a strong look at the various match-up bets at the online sports betting sites I use to see if I can find much value.
