Jets vs Steelers Betting Line

We won both of our AFC picks last week, picking the Jets +9 and the Steelers -3, but I was still shocked at the outcomes. I didn’t expect the Jets to beat the Patriots, but they managed to control the entire game and play amazing defense. Pittsburgh looked like they were going to lose the game when it was 21-7 at halftime, but the Ravens played a terrible 2nd half and let the Steelers steal the game. The 2011 AFC Championship game is scheduled to play on Sunday in Pittsburgh at 6:30pm EST.

Jets vs Steelers Online Sportsbook Betting Odds

We’ve got a wide selection of betting odds for the Jets vs Steelers 2011 AFC Championship game. I’m taking the Steelers -3.5 (-110) at BetOnline.com, but I like the Jets +4 (-110) at Sportsbook.com as well. In what should be a low scoring game, I hate giving 3+ points to the Jets, but I think the Steelers’ experience will pull them through, hopefully covering the spread.

If you think the Jets can cover the spread with +3 points, Bookmaker.com has a really intriguing option for you. They’re giving Jets +3 at +115. Still, I think the Steelers will take this by 4+ points, but if you disagree, go to Bookmaker.com and take advantage of the +115 betting line.

NY Jets vs Pittsburgh Steelers AFC Championship Game

The New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers met once in the 2010 – 2011 regular season, back in week 15 in Pittsburgh. The Jets won 22-17 in a very defensive game. This AFC Championship game should be no different, with two of the best defenses in the NFL we’re likely to see a low scoring game. In that game, New York jumped out to a quick start thanks to a 97 yard kick-off return by Brad Smith on the opening play of the game. This time around, the Steelers will focus more on special teams, so don’t expect any flukey plays like that.

New York Jets vs Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Lines

At Bodog, the opening line in the AFC Championship Game was –3 for the Steelers, but it quickly jumped to –3.5 early in the week, and it’s at -4 at Sportsbook.com at the time of this writing. About 60% of the action is on the Steelers right now, but I expect this to become more lopsided by kick-off time. Pittsburgh is a popular team and once the public starts betting the game the spread should increase. If you want to bet on the Steelers you should bet them now, but for the Jets you might want to wait until we get closer to kickoff.

Jets at Steelers AFC Championship Game

The Steelers and the Jets match-up very well and this should be an exciting, close game. Both offenses love running the ball, but the Jets running game has been more successful. New York ranked 4th in the NFL during the regular season with 148.4 rushing YPG, and they looked good last week against New England. Greene and Tomlinson combined for 119 rushing yards and 1 TD on 27 carries against the Patriots.

The Steelers didn’t have as potent of a rushing attack this season, ranking 11th in the NFL with an average of 120.2 rushing YPG. Mendenhall ended up with two short rushing TD’s against the Ravens last week, but he didn’t have a great game, gaining just 46 yards on 20 carries. Since the Jets have the 3rd best rushing defense and a more susceptible passing defense, I expect to see the Steelers offense to focus more on their passing game. With the Jets defensive flexibility, expect the them to be prepared for this coming into the game. Regardless, Roethlisberger will find his spots.

Of course both teams will be looking to create turnovers, and whoever wins this battle might end up winning the game. Polamalu leads the Steelers with 7 INT’s this season and I’m sure he can’t wait to start causing trouble for the young Jets QB, Mark Sanchez.

Jets vs Steelers: AFC Championship Key Match-Ups

Rex Ryan vs. Dick LeBeau

Both of these teams use the 3-4 defensive scheme and the match-up between Ryan and LeBeau could decide the AFC Championship Game this Sunday. Rex Ryan loves mixing up his defense by bringing pressure from every corner of the field, but the same can be said against the legendary LeBeau. Both of these guys are going to have a playbook full of crazy blitzes and coverage’s ready for Sunday. Since there shouldn’t be much scoring in this game, the defense of either team could easily steal the game with a timely fumble or interception.

Time of Possession

One statistical area where the Jets have an advantage over the Steelers is time of possession, and they’ll likely need to win the TOP battle this Sunday to win the game. When the Jets don’t win the TOP battle on offense it usually means that their running game is stagnant, which puts too much pressure on Sanchez to convert the long 2nd and 3rd downs.

New York Jets vs Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction

The New York Jets looked really good last week against the Patriots on the road, and they’re proving that they can win on the road in the playoffs. Sanchez has never played a home game in the playoffs, but he’s 4-1 on the road. It’s going to take another amazing performance for the Jets to walk away with the victory in this game, but I’m going the other way. Pittsburgh has a much better defense than the Patriots and should make it harder for the Jets to get into the end zone. If the Steelers don’t make silly turnovers they should cover the current –3.5 spread at home.

Take the Jets +4 (-110) at Sportsbook.com

Take the Steelers -3.5 (-110) at BetOnline.com
