Knicks vs Magic Game Preview

New York and Orlando were slated to meet on November 2nd, but the game was postponed when asbestos was discovered in the attic of Madison Square Garden. So, this is the first meeting between these teams for the 2010-2011 NBA season, and they won’t meet again until March, when they play each other three times.

Orlando Magic

Since November 2nd, Orlando has become a totally different team. The new roster is beginning to gel, witnessed by last week’s crushing of San Antonio. You can almost hear Dwight Howard smile when he gets on the court, knowing he has more offensive options and help under the boards.

Jason Richardson is a legitimate outside threat as is Hedo Turkoglu. Both are averaging more than 15 points per game in their new Magic attire. Turkoglu led his club with 20 points in Monday’s 18 point romp over New Jersey. J.J. Redick added 15 points in that win; a nice bonus for the Magic. Gilbert Arenas gives Orlando a fourth option on the floor even if he believes he is the only option. Notorious as a gunner, Arenas is playing unselfish basketball and benefiting more from the supporting cast he lacked in Washington. Arenas is averaging 10.3 PPG and 25 minutes coming off the bench and has adapted to his non-starter’s role well.

New York Knicks

Amar’e Stoudemire and the New York Knicks are a surprise this season. They lead the NBA averaging 107.9 points per game, but are 28th in points allowed. Stoudemire is scoring at a 26.3 per game clip and blocking 2.2 per contest. Raymond Felton is leading the team in assists and steals at 9.0 and 1.9 per game respectively. Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler and Landry Fields all average more than 10 points per game. New York rebounded from a three-game losing streak to defeat Oklahoma City, and then Chicago on Christmas Day.

They followed those games with an eight point loss to the Miami Heat on Tuesday night, showing that they’re probably a step or two away from being contenders. The game was in Miami though, and they put up a better fight than the Lakers did at home on Christmas day.

If the Knicks can rebound and defend better than they did against the Heat, New York can give Orlando a game. If not, the Magic will use the same formula set up by Miami to make the Knicks holiday trip to Florida 0-2.

New York Knicks at Orlando Magic Free Prediction

The Knicks are good on the road, at 10-6 on the season. Orlando has won 4 in a row, and are starting to really come together as a team. I hate to give up 7 against the Knicks, but I think Orlando will squeek by and cover the spread.

I’m taking the Magic -7 at home. I’ll be betting at Sportsbook.com, one of my favorite sports betting sites online. They have the best parlay odds every Friday, and $10 free NBA bets for new customers.
