Spurs vs Celtics Betting Line

A possible NBA Finals preview is on tap Wednesday night as the San Antonio Spurs (29-5) visit the Boston Celtics (26-7) at the TD Garden. The parquet floor will be the scene for what could be the best game of the year. The Spurs are in first place in the Western Conference, while the Celtics are in first in the East. Playing with home court advantage, the Celtics are favored by 2 at Sportsbook.com. Unfortunately, this game will not be televised nationally. It’s too bad that TNT, ESPN, and the NBA can’t be flexible enough to televise a game like this.

Spurs at Celtics NBA Game Preview

Boston’s big three is down to two while Kevin Garnett heals from a lower leg injury diagnosed as a calf strain. The big guy in the middle is a huge defensive loss and in the two games so far without KG, Boston has not been the same. A home loss to Chris Paul and his New Orleans Hornets was followed by an easy cruise past the Toronto Raptors. Still, the offense is now 100% on Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. These two combined for 53 of the team’s 93 points in the victory Sunday night.

More important for Boston was the return of point guard Rajon Rondo. The young floor general had only four points but eight assists in 34 minutes. Head coach Doc Rivers was pleased with his team’s performance but knows they’re going to need more contributions from other players night in and night out. Against the Hornets, Glenn “Big Baby” Davis was invisible, but he played well against Toronto with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Davis is now a starter with KG out and the Celtics will need him as an option especially against the Spurs.

Can anyone stop San Antonio? Currently on a five game win streak, the Spurs lost only twice in December. Tim Duncan is consistent and solid every game, and the Spurs are getting offense from multiple sources. Manu Ginobili (19.5 ppg) is leading the team in scoring, but point guard Tony Parker has been hot lately, earning 14 points and 10 assists in a 101-74 wipe-out of Oklahoma City.

George Hill, Gary Neal and James Anderson are willing to take shots from anywhere, and combine for almost 28 points per contest off the bench. Richard Jefferson (13.4 points per game and a sizzling .448 shooting percentage from 3-point land) is a huge difference maker not only for his scoring, but his defensive hustle and passing. Duncan and Jefferson are lethal when involved, and Parker is getting them the ball on almost every trip down the floor.

Spurs at Celtics Prediction

This game should be tight all the way down to the final buzzer. The San Antonio Spurs will be playing their third game in four days and will be coming off a Tuesday night loss against the New York Knicks. I don’t see the Spurs losing back to back games, and the loss of KG for the Celtics gives the Spurs a slight edge. I’m taking the Spurs +2 at Sportsbook.com.

For the over/under, I’m taking over at BetOnline at 189.5.
