New England Patriots

The New England Patriots finished the 2010 – 2011 NFL season with a 14-2 record. In the AFC divisional playoff game against the New York Jets, the Patriots lost 28-21.

Last season, the Patriots led the NFL in total points scored by a large margin. They scored a total of 518 points, averaging 32.4 PPG. This is a huge number, especially when you consider that the #2 team in the league, the San Diego Chargers, scored 441 points for an average of 27.6 PPG. The Patriots have added Chad Ochocinco to the receiving corps in 2011-2012, giving QB Tom Brady another good target to hit.

The Patriots also added Albert Haynesworth to the defense, who only helps this team get better. A better Patriots team is a scary thought, and they’re clearly the favorite for the AFC East for 2011 – 2012. The Jets will push them, but the Patriots should win the division.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins RB position will have a new look for the 2011 – 2012 season. Instead of Rickie Williams and Ronnie Brown, the runningbacks will be Reggie Bush, rookie Daniel Thomas, and Lex Hilliard.

QB Chad Henne threw 15 TD’s last year, with 19 INT’s and 5 fumbles (2 lost). That isn’t good, and he’ll have to cut down on his turnovers for the Dolphins to improve on their 2010-2011 record of 7-9.

It’ll be interesting to see how and how often the Dolphins use Reggie Bush. Bush has missed games due to ankle, knee, shoulder, shin, leg, and hamstring injuries in his career. If he blows his nose too hard, he might lose an eye. As everyone knows, he can be explosive – when he’s on the field. An important playmaker for the Dolphins, they’ll be in even bigger trouble if he goes down for an extended period of games this season.

New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins 2011 Week 1 Prediction

We’re taking the Patriots to cover the 7-point spread, and wouldn’t be surprised by a blowout. While most offenses take a few games to get into the swing of things, Tom Brady and his offense isn’t just any offense. These guys are good great, and the preseason should be enough for them to perform to the best of their abilities. The Dolphins have a better than average defense, but not enough to stop Brady and the Patriots offense.

We’re taking the Patriots -7 (-110), but handicappers can also get -300 on the money line. For the Dolphins, bettors can get +250 on the money line, or +7 (-110) on the spread. The over/under is 45.5, and we’ll be skipping this bet. The Patriots offense will do their part, but what the Dolphins will be able to accomplish is hard to determine.
